Wanawake na Ajira Project is a result of the findings of 2018’s 16 Days of Activism to End Gender Based Violence in Dar es Salaam.

In 2018 –16 days of activitism: WiLDAF and Bright Jamii Initiative under MKUKI coalition – with a support of Legal Service Facility provided legal aid to women working in the industries in Dar es Salaam and a number of issues related to GBV were identified in the particular working places. With these challenges, WiLDAF and BJI designed a program for intervention – sought and received a financial support of LSF to strengthen the structures that support women labour rights, protection and enforcement procedures of such rights – Hence the project “Wanawake na Ajira

The Wanawake na Ajira project is a Two years project that will be clenched in five Districts of Dar es Salaam (Kigamboni, Temeke, Ilala, Kinondoni and Ubungo).

Although the project’s title is Wanawake na Ajira, the intervention under the project will benefit youths and girls working in the industries.

The Wanawake na Ajira Project overall objective is to contribute in improving the quality of life for women, girls and youth employed and/or working in the Industries; furthermore in specific the project aim at increasing enforcement of labor rights that impacts the quality of life and further to strengthen collaboration between the consortium and stakeholders to ensure protection of labor rights of women, youth and girls working in the industries by October 2021.

The WA-project will further contribute to the implementation of NPA-VAWC, in the subsequent thematic area
                 i. Thematic area number one; Household Economic strengthening
                ii. Thematic area number three; Safe Environments at the working place
               iii. Thematic area number five; Implementation and Enforcement of Laws as the project is going to ensure the legal system is responsive to the needs of women, girls and youth working in the Industries.

This project is supported by Legal Service Facility cut(LSF) and will be implemented by Women in Law and Development Africa (WiLDAF)–Tanzania incollabaration with the Bright Jamii Initiative (BJI).

Inception Meeting At Dodoma

The Consortium of  Women in Law and Development  Africa (WiLDAF) and Bright Jamii Initiative (BJI) conducted an inception meeting to introduce their newly joint project titled “Wanawake na Ajira Project“. The meeting involved the project team and Government representative from the subsequent Ministries:- President Office Regional Administration and Local Government (PO-RALG), Prime Ministers’ Office, Labour, Youth, Employment and People with Disability (PMO-LYEPD), Ministry of Health, Community Development, Gender, Elderly and Children (MoHCDGEC), Ministry of Constitution and Legal Affairs (MoCLA), Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT); And representatives from the International Labour Organization (ILO).

The meeting managed to establish collaboration between the Consortium and the Government that will enable the Implementation of the said Wanawake na Ajira Project.
